EMV Events decided to interview the amazing graphic design creator Kai of Deadicated Designs. Kai is the creator of the EMV logo and many logos of bands and companies alike. Read on to discover the story behind the company and the creator.
1.Tell us about DEADicated Design?
DEADicated Design is a part of DEADICATED MEDIA LTD. It has been around for just over 3 years and has evolved time after time throughout those 3 years. It holds most of my work since the inception.
2.Where did the name come from?
So when I decided that I wanted to do this, the first step was giving it a name, can’t go anywhere without it. I had pondered this for a few days, DEADicated Design being one of the first. Sadly I have forgotten any of the others. At first I thought the name sounded cringy, I’m sure some people still do. I slept on it and DEADicated Design was the only one I liked and it stuck. It doesn’t really mean anything, just has wordplay and a bit of edginess. Time after time things I have been a part of things that have had nasty names and I have felt embarrassed to say them, but this did not.
3.Why did you start designing?
To no surprise I took art through school and had had an interest in drawing since I knew how to. Standard artist past right? In school, I did alright but I felt very boxed, I was sick of painting, and collaging and doing stuff I did not want to do. Eventually, the man, the myth, the legend, Mr Alton the teaching assistant in our current design class pushed me towards digital design and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and that was kinda where it started. I wish I could credit him with something but I don’t know how I could find him online. Great dude, will always be a huge inspiration to me. From there I just started doing logos since I found that was my passion and did logos for friends bands for dirt cheap until I went online and got clients from all over the world. You can’t beat doing what you love for money ay.
4.Where do you want to take the business next?
It’s a hard one but I have a few ideas. I will be removing DEADicated Apparel and in time I will be making a new apparel line, with a name that won’t be connected to DEADicated but still under DEADICATED MEDIA LTD. I have made a lot of designs for it and know the name, this one means more to me than most things I have done and I hope I can do this properly and branch out into more unique clothing creation. For my design work I just want to keep expanding my reach and capabilities.
5.What’s been your biggest wow moment to date?
When I was doing a logo for a band called Dethrone The Deceiver probably. I have been lucky enough to work with them a lot. When I was first commisioned by them, Isaac, their vocalist sent me a sample of their music and it gave me goosebumps, it sounded so sick and professional and it hit me that i’m working with an amazing band and that’s going to keep happening. Also my experience with Holding Absence, at a show Lucas their vocalist said how he thought my work was cool and he would love to get a metal logo designed for a Halloween t-shirt, he said he can’t make a promise but it’s being talked about. When I got that message weeks later about it wanting to be done it felt incredibly great.
6.What’s been your favourite thing you have designed so far?
Damn, I can’t place a finger on that one! Some of the stuff for my future clothing but I can’t show that. With all the different topics I have created for as well. I’m just going to have to attach some of my favourite pieces.
7.Is there anyone you would love the chance to work with?
Definitely Holding Absence again. Probably a bunch of designers I am lucky enough to call my friends. Then just any artists who pushes me to do something new.
8.Do you want to specialise in band logos or do you want to do something else?
I would for sure say that is what I feel I am best at currently. I do like to do as much as I can so I have illustrations, posters, stream videos and all sorts of other media in my collection and want to keep exploring other things.
10.What do you enjoy most about your business?
As I have said above, being able to make money from doing my favourite thing. It’s literally unbeatable in the career stance. I also love the people I meet and get to work with, 90% of the time it’s an absolute pleasure.
11.I know your an avid music fan. who are your favourite bands and have you had a chance to work with any of them?
As also said above I have been able to work with Holding Absence of whom I love deeply. I recently worked with a dark synthwave artist called Dav Dralleon, always wanted to work on pieces for anything in the synth genre. I created a bunch of Monster Hunter mascot logos for content creators knows for Monster Hunter. A few of them purchased my work, most notably, Arekkz Gaming.
12.Where do you see Deadicated in 5 years time?
I can only hope I guess. I’m sure I will have changed my presentation fifteen times. Really I hope that in general my designing can be 100% what I’m doing, and that doing it will be earning me enough to live how I would like to.
13.What have we got to look forward to from DEADicated Design?
I don’t want to come off too cocky here but I hope that when I launch my new clothing that it can go well and people like it. I look forward to seeing myself grow and being able to do more, so if by any chance you do too then let that be it <3
